My Reiki Journey
‘Welcome to a world of limitless possibilities, where the journey is as exhilarating as the destination, and where every moment is an opportunity to make your mark’.

So by the time I left hospital after nearly being ventilated twice – frighting my kids and husband half to death, I decided given my redundancy that I really did need some proper time to recover and decided to take to summer off with the kids and worry about a job come September. In the meantime I wanted to take some me time and find spend time finding something – anything that wasn’t more tablets! Id heard of Reiki but never really thought much about it and certainly hadn’t given any thought to try it but what did I have to lose at this point and it wasn’t going to do any harm.
I looked for local practitioners, looked at websites, read reviews but kept being drawn back to Amy of Balance & Bliss Healing so I contacted her and booked an appointment. The minute I walked into her Reiki studio I felt at ease and basically developed verbal diarrhoea talking non stop for about 15 minutes, poor Amy must have thought what the heck has just walked in! However, she was very understanding, empathetic and told me about her own journey to Reiki which I found really inspiring. After that I settled down for my first session and WHOA! From the minute of sitting up I felt light, my world had been lifted off my shoulder, giving me room to actually breath and think clearly for the first time in months. No it didn’t solve the pain and no it didn’t lift the fatigue but Reiki isn’t a cure; its a healing process and it gave me room to heal me which meant I could deal with the fatigue and the pain in a way I wasn’t able to before.
I carried on the Reiki and come September started looking for and applying for Nursing jobs within the NHS. It very quickly became clear to me that there was nothing at my grade. I also got a bit of a reality check from my GP and The ME/CFS team that I wasn’t returning to full-time employment anytime soon. I soon discovered there were even fewer part-time jobs in the NHS regardless of grade and although I kept looking I had to admit a small defeat, I wasn’t returning to Nursing or the NHS anytime soon – I was devastated. Despite all its flaws and the incredibly hard work, I had enjoyed my job but at that time it just wasn’t to be – as they say, the universe works in mysterious ways and will bring to you what you need at the right time.
I continued with Reiki and decided to trust the process. During one of my sessions with Amy, I discovered the Harmony Hub in Chorley, Lancashire, where they did all sorts of holistic classes and taught Reiki. After visiting a few times I felt I’d found my tribe and a Reiki Master who I wanted to learn with. Liz (photo, right side handing me my Level 1 Reiki Certificate) has taken me on an immense journey of self-healing and self-discovery and I have learned so much about other forms of holistic energy healing too. A year past in no time and I was ready to become a Reiki Master Practitioner when out of the blue I received a very unexpected phone call from a colleague who worked with a CIC I had had very close ties with during my role as Lead Nurse for the Armed Forces Community. This phone call was yet again about to throw another curve ball at me.
